What to do in Brotas at night: Cine São José, breweries and cafés
After a day of rafting, ATVs or waterfalls, the question is always the same: what to do in Brotas at night? The town has a historic cinema, award-winning craft breweries and cozy cafés. Here are our picks to end the day on a high note.
Cine São José: Brotas' historic cinema

O Cine São José is one of the most charming places in town. The current building opened in 1956 and became known as the “Enchanted Palace of the Town”. The cinema closed in 1994 and, after a restoration, reopened in March 2009 with the national premiere of the film O Menino da Porteira. Today the venue belongs to the singer Daniel, who was born in Brotas.
Besides films, Cine São José hosts concerts, plays and events, and has a snack bar. It is at Av. Rodolpho Guimarães, 635, downtown. Check the schedule on the cinema's website (opens in a new tab) before you go.
Craft breweries in Brotas
Brotas is known as the adventure capital, but it also has a strong craft beer scene. Our picks:
Brotas Beer

A Brotas Beer is the largest and most award-winning brewery in town, with dozens of national and international medals. It has a restaurant serving German food and self-service taps. Also see our post about Pub Brotas Beer.
Aventura Líquida
Founded in 2018, Aventura Líquida started in the family's old workshop and brews Lager, Session IPA and Stout. A name that fits Brotas perfectly!
Cultiva
A Cultiva is in the countryside, surrounded by nature, with plenty of outdoor space and a family atmosphere. The brewery also produces honey, used in one of its recipes, and usually has live music on Saturdays.
Drink responsibly. Don't drink and drive.
Cafés and bakeries for a lovely late afternoon
If you prefer coffee and cake, these are our team's picks. They are all in town and easy to fit into your itinerary after the tours:
- Dona Tininha
- Bello Quinto Garden Café & Empório: in the Historic Center of Brotas, an open-air space with gardens, lawns, two small lakes and a natural spring. Great for an unhurried coffee and for photos.
- Bela Artes Café
- Padaria Paulicéia
Itinerary: a full day in Brotas
- Morning: Rafting in Brotas on the Jacaré Pepira River;
- Afternoon: ATV Tour + Waterfall, ending with the sunset when available;
- Late afternoon: coffee at one of the places above;
- Night: a film at Cine São José or craft beer at one of the breweries.
